How to cancel Apple Music

Cancel Apple Music at music.apple.com under Settings, then Manage next to Subscriptions, or on iPhone in Settings, your name, Subscriptions. A Google Play subscription on Android is cancelled in the Apple Music app or at play.google.com. When it expires, catalog songs and the playlists built from them stop playing.

Apple is specific about Google Play: "If you pay for Apple Music through Google Play, you can cancel your subscription only in the Apple Music app on your Android device or at play.google.com." Can't find the subscription at all? Search your email for "receipt from Apple" or "invoice from Apple" and check which Apple Account the receipt names. No receipt from Apple means another company bills you, and your bank or card statement will name it.

How to cancel Apple Music on the web

  1. Go to music.apple.com.
  2. Choose Sign In at the top of the page. If you don't see it, skip this step.
  3. Tap or click the My Account icon.
  4. Choose Settings.
  5. Scroll to Subscriptions and choose Manage.
  6. Choose Cancel Subscription.

If the website won't let you cancel, Apple says to cancel in Settings instead.

How to cancel Apple Music on iPhone or iPad

  1. In Settings, tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap Apple Music.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription. You might need to scroll down to find it.

No Cancel button, or an expiration message in red? It is already cancelled. These are the steps you use to cancel any subscription on iPhone.

On a Mac, on Windows and on Android

On a Mac, open the App Store and click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then your name again on the page that appears. Click Subscriptions, choose Apple Music and click Cancel Subscription. On a Windows PC, open the Apple Music app, click your name at the bottom of the sidebar and choose View My Account. In the Settings section, click Manage next to Subscriptions, find Apple Music, click Edit, then Cancel Subscription.

On Android it depends on who bills you. A Google Play subscription is cancelled in the Google Play app, the same way you cancel any Google Play subscription. One billed by Apple is cancelled at account.apple.com, where you sign in and follow the prompts.

What happens to your library

Read this part before you confirm. "After your subscription to Apple Music expires, you'll no longer be able to play songs from the Apple Music catalog." Playlists you added from the catalog, or built from catalog songs, go with them, and Sync Library turns off. What stays is what was yours before: "Any music and playlists you had on your device before you subscribed to Apple Music will still be available." If a playlist matters to you, screenshot it before the date passes.

Trials, Apple One and family plans

For a trial, Apple's rule is to cancel "at least 24 hours before the trial ends." Its Media Services terms add that if you cancel an Apple free trial before it ends, "you cannot reactivate the free trial." Cancel once you've decided, not to keep your options open.

Apple One changes the line you look for. When Apple One starts billing, separate subscriptions to the services inside it are cancelled automatically, iCloud+ aside. Apple Music then comes as part of the bundle, and the plan to change or cancel is Apple One. A family subscription is cancelled by the person whose Apple Account appears on the receipt, because Apple says you can't cancel a family member's subscription.

The mistake that keeps you paying

Looking for an Apple Music line that no longer exists. Inside Apple One there is no separate Apple Music subscription to cancel, and the bundle keeps billing until you change Apple One itself. Open Subscriptions, see which line is really there, and cancel or downgrade that one. Then note the expiry date, and if you are on a trial, set a reminder two days before it ends.

Keeping Apple Music? Keep the date

Put Apple Music in Subby with its renewal or trial end date, and the reminder arrives before the charge. As the date gets close, Home lists it among the next payments. Free to use, with ads, and no account or bank login.
